In Room 14 we have students that range in year groups from years 4-6. This year there has been 7 students in our class, 1 Teacher, Mr Riemer, and 6 Education Assistants; Mr Oreo, Ms Tognetti, Mrs Wills, Mr Brogmus, Mr Barrington, Miss Grey and Mrs Peters.
In room 14 we spend our time working towards attaining results that are based on each child’s individual education plans or IEP’s. All our classroom work is tailored and structured so that each child is having their individual educational, physical and emotional needs meet not only by a team of dedicated staff but also by various therapists and specific support people that we engage throughout the school year in a variety of exciting and educational activities.
Some of the amazing activities that we have been able to be part of this year are horse riding for the disabled or RDA, swimming, with Mrs Ellery at ALAC, once a week and circus skills at PCYC with Southern Edge Arts. Fishing with a fantastic group of volunteers from the department of Sport and Recreation, where we either brushed up our fishing skills or they taught us some new ones.
While all of this makes it sound like we just swan around having fun we actually run many great educational programs in our class as well. Some of the programs we participate in are Protective Behaviours, MULTILIT, Fundamental Movement, Science, PATHS, Sensory Eating, Art and Independent Learning.
In room 14 we have decided that our class motto should be “We are all people of character”, because from our teacher to our EA’s to our wonderful students we ALL participate in making our classroom a fun, exciting and inspirational place to learn, grow and have fun.
