Parents of Megan -Testimonial
When Megan was first diagnosed with an Intellectual Disability, we were told that the gap between her and her peers would get wider as she got older. This became apparent as she progressed through mainstream classes, by yr5, the gap was “Huge”. Making the move to Spencer Park Education Support Centre was one of the easiest, most positive things we have ever done for Megan.
Megan became part of a small class (7 students) all working at an educational level years behind their peers, just like herself. She was no longer the odd one out in the class, but now a team player in a class of other kids all with their own special needs just like herself.
An Individual Education Programme (IEP) has meant that Megan has continuously been working on a programme specific to her needs and abilities. All goals put in place for her by her teacher have been well and truly achievable for Megan’s level of ability and not her age.
The first school report we received from SPESC was very exciting for us as parents. For the first time EVER we weren’t looking at a report full of E’s because Megan had failed to achieve anything she should have for her age. This report was full of all the things Megan had achieved and the things she was good at. Very positive and such a huge confidence boost for all of us.
Teaching Megan has required a lot of patience, repetition, dedication, repetition, expertise and alternative teaching methods and did I mention repetition. All of this has been found in abundance in all the staff at the support centre.
Megan has grown so much in her 3 years at the centre and we will always be extremely grateful for the many positive experiences she has had in her time there.
I would strongly recommend any parent or caregiver of a child with a disability, to at the very least go and have a chat with the principal, Diane Edwards and to have a look around the centre. It may or may not be the right place for you and your child. For us it was “Just the Best”

Parents of Storm -Testimonial
Owen and I appreciate everything the school has done to help Storm during her time at the centre. She’s gone from having her preschool and first grade teacher’s comment on her lack of ability in learning and social skills to being a confident and chatty young girl who has improved on so many levels.
It’s truly a tribute to both her and your efforts; she definitely couldn’t have done it without you. We’re very thankful that there are schools like SPESC and teachers like Ben in our education system. The school and Ben with the help of her assistants have helped build the foundation for improved academic achievement, focus and social interactions. The impact of your help is very significant. It will help her for the rest of her life. We truly can’t thank you enough and will be forever grateful.
Storm will definitely miss seeing you all and we wish the school and its entire staff well.
Our sincerest thanks,
Owen and Deborah
